✜ Umi's parents are the sweetest, most doting things ever (especially her dad) but also extremely demanding of her. Her competitive streak and desire to be the best at what she does is mostly due to this. Also, because Mr. and Mrs. Ryuuzaki are snobs, they brought her up in a mostly occidental fashion; Umi is used to British tea time, uses fork and knife other than chopsticks, has lived in European-styled mansions all her life, etc.
✜ Due to this Umi's English is as good as her first language. She's quite excellent at French too. She's studied abroad several times, in both London and Paris, and the Ryuuzakis, being the wealthy posh family they are, have traveled abroad very often.
✜ Her education has involved everything a rich girl should know: from etiquette classes to fencing, ballet, piano (these she enjoys a lot), tennis and horseback riding (which she dislikes because she's too temperamental to get along with horses or animals in general).
✜ She's never had any pets and secretly longs for one, though she's not good at relating to animals at all, save perhaps sea creatures.
✜ Umi's really NOT money-conscious. She's been wealthy all her life and has only worked for her father's company in internships, etc. She's never had to earn a living, so this is entirely new to her. She's also used to having servants do all domestic tasks for her.
✜ Even if she's a fabulous baker she fails sorely at cooking. There's simply no way around this. Umi loves pasta with a passion. Sweets disgust her, but she can eat such things as ice cream with no problem. She canonically loves Denny's, MOS Burger and Häagen-Dazs.
✜ Back in school she was pretty popular and had a little circle of friends always around. She's gone through several boyfriends though she never took them seriously. Hikaru and Fuu are the first true friends she ever had. She isn't a good student, dislikes studying and has conduct problems from time to time due to her temper.
✜ Fencing has always been Umi's favorite sport. She's superb at it beyond her age and puts all her dedication into improving all the time. She was very close to her former fencing captain before the older girl transferred to a different school. Umi became the new captain shortly before this girl left. She considers all forms of swordsmanship an art and is a fan of blades in general.
|✜ Although she doesn't consider herself good with children Umi can be overprotective as hell with everyone she cares about, more so if they look younger and more vulnerable than her. As opposed to this she has a need of someone to look up to, especially when away from home, as her father has been a constant support in her life.|
✜ Cephiro changed her life in how she grew a sort of hero complex, taking her responsibilities as Magic Knight quite seriously when at first she just made fun of the idea. Guilt for killing Princess Emeraude still comes back to haunt her, even if she reminds herself it was necessary to save Cephiro.
✜ She has a little bug phobia but won't ever admit it. Her dream is becoming a bride though romance is the farthest thing from her mind and she keeps it like that on purpose.
✜ Umi is also a great swimmer. Her water magic helps her a lot there, though this is a natural talent. She used to both compete and swim for fun back in Tokyo. All water activities suit her. Even if she can't breathe underwater she can hold her breath much longer than average.
✜ Also because of her magic she's not vulnerable to cold weather although can catch illness like every ordinary person. She's great at winter sports but has a very lousy aim.
✜ Umi canonically hates sewing and any other HomeEc tasks. She can't wield a needle without stabbing her fingers and has no patience for such crafty pursuits.
✜ Speed is her element's essence. Hers is canonically the fastest Mashin of the three. Perhaps as a consequence of this, Umi is in fact a bit of a speed freak. She can drive, though she does so disastrously and has wrecked several cars due to this. She feels drawn to all sorts of fast vehicles including bikes and racing karts.
✜ Her relationship with her Rune God, the sea dragon Celes, was perhaps the closest of all the Knights with their Mashins. Celes allowed Umi to touch him, something rare even between a Rune God and his chosen one. After Celes departed to another universe with Mokona he sometimes sneaks into Umi's dreams and talks to her or simply keeps her company, inspiring in her peaceful visions of the ocean and Cephiro's virgin beaches.
